As part of the debt ceiling deal, Congress will now create an undemocratic "Super Committee" to fast-track more deficit reduction this year. This 12 person committee—6 Republicans, 6 Democrats—is charged with finding $1.5 trillion in savings either by cutting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid or by increased revenues, or some combination.
With Republicans intent on protecting the tax breaks enjoyed by the rich and big corporations, Social Security and Medicare are at risk. That’s why House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid must appoint middle class champions that represent the views of the American majority.
Sign the petition below to tell Leaders Pelosi and Reid: Appoint Democrats who will make sure this “Super Committee” will not cut Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid. Tell them to appoint leaders like Sen. Bernie Sanders, Rep. Keith Ellison and Rep. Raul Grijalva who represent views supported by the vast majority of Americans.
